Week 3 January 15, 2012
The boys are continuing on with their little mission to help give back. This week they have to make a card and mail it to their Great Grandmother,Memaw...She is 98 and lives in Mesquite. I hope the boys get really creative and put a lot of thought & love in their cards. I kn ow she will LOVE receiving these.
Hope House Delivery
Friday we ran into our 1st problem. The Methodist Church takes Hope House items Monday-Thursday 9am-12pm. Patrick and the boys went to deliver and it was closed. So I was thinking of how I could get this stuff up there.
I prayed about this issue because I had put this task in the jar at least 4 times and I was going to run into this problem every time. Then I thought I wonder if 1st Baptist here would be able to become a "dropping" area for these items.
Sunday night Darren Braddy spoke about the Hope House and items they needed. As well as his life group is making a service project for getting items together for the Hope House. They thought the same thing "how awesome would it be for 1st Baptist to be a drop zone". God answered my prayer to a the letter...He is pretty good at that...LOL.
So last weeks mission is not complete yet but will be tonight.
On a side note...The Hope House is in need for items all the time. You can call and they have a list and specific items that they need weekly. I am planning Jackson's 9th Leggo Birthday Party and we are going to do a food drive instead of presents for the Hope House. The Student Council @ CHS is hosting a "Souper Bowl" dinner and all donations will go to the Hope House as well. So make plans for February 5 to attend the meal at one of the local churches. I think most of the churches are all helping host it and donating everything to the Hope House.
Also I wanted you all to know I cleaned out our pantry and added 4 items to what is being deliver. So I only spent 5 dollars(if that) on this task. If you are thinking about starting this but afraid of the expense try little things like cards for the Nursing Home or baked goods to your preacher. I think 5-7 dollars is the most we will ever have to spend on a project and 30 RAKs are less than a dollar to do. Just a FYI to help get you started!

Week 1-- January 3rd 2012
RAK--Collect loose change and deliver it a local charity box.
We found a Literacy Program to donate to at the Dollar General Store here in town. The boys found a little over $5.00 in change throughout the week and we took it up there Sunday afternoon. (I will post the pics later, I don't know how to do that yet)
The boys weren't very excited but I am praying this grows on them. You will see the "excitement" in the pictures. LOL

52 Weeks of Giving!
52 Weeks of Giving, is about me teaching my boys, Jackson-8 & Ryan-7, it is better to give then receive. I have made a "Giving Jar" filled with 52 RAKs (Random Acts of Kindness). Each week the boys will draw a RAK out of the jar and on it is a task for them to complete. I came up with 52 different "tasks" that I thought the boys would be able to complete with little help from me. I want this to be their project.
For the RAKs I did things from donating a book to the local library to making their great grandmother a card and mailing. I tried to make it all local and cost efficient. I don't want this to be a "chore" for the boys but an opportunity for them to find the real joy in giving.
Each week I will post what RAK we have gotten, take pictures and you can follow us as we deliver the gifts to wherever it goes. I will share all the triumphs and disasters. My hope is that the boys will want this to go on for more than 52 weeks. Please keep our hearts in your prayers and know this is to be done out of love and giving unselfishly.
I hope as you follow us throughout the year that you become inspire to start giving as well.
